The centuries-old Iraqi Maqam tradition, which is unique to Iraq and is one of the most sophisticated musical forms in the Arab world, was proclaimed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2003. Once ubiquitous throughout Iraq, this tradition is in danger of extinction. The two most important maqam singers of the 20th century, Yusuf Omar and Mohammed Al-Gubbenchi, gave Hamid their blessing by naming him the main purveyor of the Maqam in his generation. This concert marks his US debut performance, and he will be accompanied by Amir ElSaffar on santur, Dakhel Ahmed on jowza, Ahmed Dakhel on qanun and percussion, and Sabah Kathom on percussion. Hamid Al-Saadi's US Tour was produced by Alwan for the Arts No alcohol will be served at this concert.
